  • Townshend assists with career fair

More than 600 students in the College of Food, Agriculture, and Environmental Science at Ohio State University attend the college's semi-annual career fair. The Townshend Chapter plays an important part by setting up and tearing down as well as assisting company representatives.

The career fair serves as a fundraiser for the chapter. The college pays the chapter $300 to staff this event. We had twenty-five members volunteer for this event. And this year the chapter raffled a $25 Barnes and Nobel gift card to a member who volunteered for the career fair. Sophomore Cristian Clonch won the raffle. -- Nick Weidenbenner, Townshend Chapter

    Question of the week
    Aubrey Krug

Our advisor is retiring, does our new advisor need to be a member of Alpha Zeta? -- Aubrey Krug, Chancellor, Illinois Gamma

He or she does not need to be a member before taking the advisor position. However, if your new advisor is not a member, you should initiate him or her as an associate member as soon as possible.

    North Carolina offering holiday help
    North Carolina helps needy family

Each year the North Carolina Chapter adopts a family that is in need during the holidays.

Macy, 3, has leukemia and recently received a bone marrow transplant and finances are tight. Although Macy's father works, her mom had to quit work to take care of Macy and her older brothers. The family has to stay isolated from other people to limit the germs that Macy comes in contact with so her brothers are now home schooled.

The isolation is taking a toll on everyone's spirits, so we joined together as a brotherhood to collect donations, shop for presents, and deliver them to the family. We collected $600 to spend on the family. Community relations are a great way for people to learn about Alpha Zeta and agriculture. As always, this activity is a touching way for us give back to the community during the Christmas season. -- Tori White, North Carolina

Student registration is $225 and includes lodging and most meals.

    Morrow paints faces at Petstravaganza

The Morrow Chapte at University of Illinois reached out to the community through Petstravaganza, an event last spring held at U of I's stock pavillion.

The family-oriented event allowed kids and parents to learn about companion animals through displays and actual animals.

AZ's booth was face painting and temporary animal tattoos for kids. Members signed up for two one-hour shifts. It was alot of fun and the kids were really cute! -- Kinsey Park, Morrow Chapter
