  • Bunge partners with Alpha Zeta

Bunge, a leading agribusiness and food company with more than 22,000 employees, will be a Platinum sponsor of the National Agricultural Leadership Conference and 50th Biennial Alpha Zeta Conclave, March 29-31, 2007. The company is expanding and looking to hire qualified candidates through Alpha Zeta, one approach will be through the NALC; Bunge will have a booth at the Career/Internship Fair.

    NALC fundraising ideas

The NALC and Conclave is an important business meeting. It's also a fun place to meet other AZs. But coming up with the travel money can be problematic. Now is the time to start planning. Here are some ideas:

    • Ask your advisor, dean and/or ag student council about funding for NALC. Most colleges will provide some funding for professional conferences.
    • Airfare giving your chapter second thoughts? Ask an alumni or parent to donate frequent flyer miles!
    • Inquire with the athletic department if there are opportunities for student groups to run concession stands. It's a lot of work, but can be very lucrative ($1,000+ for a 3-day weekend).

    Beef scholarship deadline Oct. 10

The National Cattlemen’s Foundation and the Chicago Mercantile Exchange are awarding 20 $1,500 scholarships to students pursuing a career in the beef industry. One recipient will receive airfare and lodging to the Cattle Industry Annual Convention and Trade Show in Nashville, Tenn., January 31 – February 3, 2007. Entries must be postmarked by October 10.

A three-minute video about the history, mission and activities of Alpha Zeta designed to help recruit new members. After hearing from a couple people saying the embedded video wasn't displaying, I figured I better put in a link:

    • Can't compete with football: Host an Alpha Zeta pre-game tailgate or post game party. Invite members and alumni.
    • Construction Party. Perform a service project building something (Habitat for Humanity). When done for the day have a construction-themed social gathering. Hard hat, jeans, and work boots required.
    • Poker Tournament. Compete for prizes (not cash) in a Texas Hold'em Tournament. Money raised through an entry fee can go to a charity of choice, such as the Alpha Zeta Foundation -- help support the Gulf Coast Work Trip!
