Green Mountain celebrates centennial
Gov. Jim Douglas capped a day of celebration for the Green Mountain Chapter at University of Vermont. The 100th anniversary reunited several alumni, including the son of one of the chapter's founders. Gov. Douglas was awarded honorary membership. And two scholarships were awarded to chapter members. Alpha Zeta Work Trip
We're discussing a possible national service project in the Gulf Coast. Transportation from the National Office would be provided and I'm looking into getting housing and meals provided. The group would work through a relief agency, but ideally, it will seek to assist AZ members, their families, farms or rural areas affected by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. The four- to five-day trip would be in mid-December or early January. [ Comments ]

Agricultural Appraisal Consultant (Visalia, Calif.)
Position involves client contact to develop or analyze enterprise budgets, evaluate management in connection with crop and livestock loans, field inspections of growing crops, valuation of livestock and commodities, and familiarity with agribusiness equipment. Training in real estate appraisal is a plus. Position will require some travel. Ongoing awareness of market trends, commodity prices, compliance issues and other factors influencing agribusiness is required.
Qualification/Skills
Bachelor's Degree in Agriculture or related field and with agricultural production/field experience or background. Candidate must display strong personal relation skills with the clients and Bank associates. Written and oral communication must be accurate and will have a high decision making impact. Ability to work independently and objectively assess management capabilities and success of ag operations.

Farm Journal
Farm Journal has an opening for a dynamic individual to fill a new position at the magazine. Although more or less entry level, the growth potential is enormous. The right candidate will have strong organizational and people skills and an interest in hands-on development of cutting-edge test plot program. This person will work directly with the field test director and field agronomist to develop, implement and write about the original agronomic research conducted by the magazine. A farm background and/or a bio-science or agriculture educational emphasis is preferred.

Turn in membership applications
Membership applications and payment should be received 10 business days before initiation, or your chapter will be subject to a $5 per application late fee and express shipping charges. If you have outstanding invoices from membership applications (or other charges), they must be paid before certificates and pins will be issued.
Officer reports due

Building a successful
Alpha Zeta Chapter
- Focus time and effort at a place/method where the greatest success is likely.
- Primary motivation for anyone to become a member is WIIFMs (What's in it for me). Define the WIIFM and promote it.
- Create awareness and interest by delivering on promises.
- Before pride can exist, the characteristics of significance, accomplishment and distinction must be present.
Member Recruitment Tips
- Cast a wide net. Host an informal informational event (with food). Invite all ag students.
- Invite those qualified and interested in joining Alpha Zeta back for a more formal event.
- Don't limit your chapter to specific disciplines. Be inclusive.
- Ask permission to send a letter under the dean's signature to prospective members.
