 The Alpha Zeta Foundation will award five monetary scholarships to outstanding members this year. National Alpha Zeta Scholarship applications are due Feb. 1.  Gulf Coast Work Trip
Alpha Zeta members from across the country traveled to to Louisiana on Jan. 5, for a four-day work trip. The group built about 4 miles of fences, cleared brush and framed a new shed for several farmers affected by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. [ More | Photos ]
 California dreaming!
Register today for the National Agricultural Leadership Conference at Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo March 16-18. The tours, workshops and other events will be excellent. And the setting is spectacular. Start making plans (i.e. fundraising) to attend NOW! The conference builds on the theme from the 2005 NALC and emphasizes California's history of irrigation: "Watering the Seed of Tomorrow's Agricultural Leaders."  NALC travel awards
AgCareers is sponsoring travel awards for chapters that work the hardest to bring members to the NALC. There will be awards given in three attendance-based categories: "First Time in a Long Time," "Quality Crew" and "Big Time." Chapters who demonstrate the best effort in fundraising, promotion and attendance will be awarded travel grants. [ More ]

Turn in membership applications
Membership applications and payment should be received 10 business days before initiation, or your chapter will be subject to a $5 per application late fee and express shipping charges. If you have outstanding invoices from membership applications (or other charges), they must be paid before certificates and pins will be issued.
Officer reports due
If your chapter is not on the list below mail, fax or e-mail your Officer, Advisor and Calendar Report [ Form #3 ] to the national office. These forms should be submitted within 10 days of an election. Chapters are required to submit Officer Reports to the National Office. [ info@alphazeta.org ] |

- Airfare to SLO giving your chapter second thoughts about NALC? Ask an alumni or parent to donate frequent flyer miles!
- Inquire with the athletic department if there are opportunities for student groups to run a concession stand.
- Ask your advisor, dean and/or student council about funding for NALC March 16-18, 2006.

- Primary motivation for anyone to become a member is WIIFM (What's in it for me). Define the WIIFM and promote it.

- Before pride can exist, the characteristics of significance, accomplishment and distinction must be present.

Livestock Publications Council scholarship
 Scholarship applications for the Forrest Bassford Student Award are due Feb. 15. The $1,500 scholarship will be awarded by the Livestock Publications Council at the Ag Media Summit in Portland, Ore., July 23-26. [ More ]
PDHGA Scholarship
 Do you have a family member who is a member of the Professional Dairy Heifer Growers Association? If so you are eligible for a $500 scholarship. Students currently enrolled in agriculture or a related field at an accredited college or university may apply. [ More ]
Internship Opportunities
 The American Agricultural Editor's Association 2006 magazine internship includes an eight- to 10-week hands-on ag journalism position with a member publication. That publication will be determined by January 2006. The intern will receive a $4,000 stipend and attendance at the Agricultural Media Summit in Portland, Ore., July 23-26, 2006.
