Townshend hosting NALC

Alpha Zeta returns to its roots March 27-29, 2008, for the National Agricultural Leadership Conference. The Townshend Chapter at Ohio State, the founding chapter of Alpha Zeta, will host the national event.

Programs on the schedule include an expanded Career/Internship Fair, AgTours and workshops discussing officer training, chapter development, international agriculture and diversity. Read more...

After two successful trips to the Gulf Coast region to assist farmers recovering from Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, it's time to switch gears a bit. Submit new member applications
All new member applications should be turned in by October 1

If your chapter did not receive new member certificates and pins from the National Office, it did NOT submit membership applications and/or payment. If the National Office does not receive new member applications and payment for the 2006-2007 academic year, the High Council may declare your chapter inactive. Please submit any outstanding applications and payment before October 1. Download Forms...

Conclave approves freshman initiation
Bylaws committee discusses amendmentsAmendment sets new minimum standards for membership

Chapters may initiate a new member who has established a grade point average within the college of agriculture that places him or her in the upper two-fifths of the college (Fraternity Bylaws, Section 1.02.a, Adopted March 31, 2007). For example, a freshman with one semester under his or her belt and ranked in the top 10 percent may be initiated into Alpha Zeta, provided he or she meets the other qualifications for membership. Officer reports due
If your chapter has held elections recently submit an officer report

Officer, Calendar and Advisor Reports (Form #3) are due within 10 days after an election. Failure to submit an officer report may result in your chapter being classified as inactive.

Monsanto contributing to leadership development
NALC 2007 Chapter Development pre-conferencePartnership with Alpha Zeta will focus on officer training

Monsanto has pledged  more than $50,000 over three years to support the National Agricultural Leadership Conference (NALC), an annual event for collegiate agricultural students hosted by Alpha Zeta.

"Monsanto recognizes the importance of recruiting the best agriculture has to offer," said Alan Krob, Alpha Zeta executive director. "Those individuals are members of Alpha Zeta." Read more...


Help wanted
Drake & Company seeks intern; program coordinator

Drake & Company, the firm that manages Alpha Zeta and several other associations, is looking for a versatile intern with a background in agriculture to work on projects involving membership relations, marketing and education. Students with or pursuing degrees in ag communications, ag education, ag business or animal science are encouraged to apply. The position is paid; expect 30-35 hrs./week. Some travel may be required.

DrakeCo is also seeking a program coordinator with a similar background to work with the National Christmas Tree Association, MidStates Hearth Patio and Barbecue Association and other clients.

The Fall Packet contains important information about the upcoming year. If you do not receive the Fall Packet by September 30, please inform the National Office. We may not have an address on file for your chapter.
Alpha Zeta is as strong as the work you put into it. I often tell chapter leaders that the chapter can be whatever you want it. I encourage you to seek out service opportunities involving agriculture in the community and on campus.
